It seems to me that melody is universal and the ones that I really connect to shine out irrespective of genre or context, whether from techno, folk or whatever. “Piano Versions is four minimal, ambient piano covers of songs I have loved for a long time but that come from very different places. Originally composed by Roger & Brian Eno, “Wintergreen” is the lead track from the EP, and available to listen to now. On these versions, Hopkins used his upright piano as the centrepiece of the EP, whilst recording the ambient, environmental elements around it. The songs on the EP, originally by Roger & Brian Eno, Thom Yorke, Luke Abbott and James Yorkston are presented in a completely new context to their initial form. Presented as the sister record to 2014’s Asleep Versions, Piano Versions is a collection of ambient piano cover versions. Prior to Immunity’s release, Hopkins was known as an expert producer and remixer of artists including David Lynch, Disclosure, Four Tet, Wild Beasts and Purity Ring. Both Immunity and Diamond Mine (his collaboration with King Creosote) were nominated for the Mercury Prize, and his Monsters film score attracted an Ivor Novello nomination.Following the recent release of his cover of “Dawn Chorus”, today Jon Hopkins shares the news of his new EP, Piano Versions which is due for digital release on 16th April 2021, with a physical release on 2nd July 2021. Hopkins has been incredibly busy since the release of Immunity with nonstop touring and projects including scoring the prestigious Barbican production of Hamlet, collaborations with Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes and Bonobo. Its epic musical palette is visceral and emotionally honest: with a destructive opener full of industrial electronics and sonic claustrophobia and a redemptive, pure end on solo piano, this album reflects the psychological states Hopkins lived through during the writing process.Įxploring the connectivity of the mind, sonics and the natural world, Singularity is intended to be listened to in one sitting, as a complete body of work.

Shaped by his experiences with meditation and trance states, the album flows seamlessly from rugged techno to transcendent choral music, from solo acoustic piano to psychedelic ambient.

It is a journey that returns to where it began – from the opening note of foreboding to the final sound of acceptance. Where Immunity – his hypnotic breakthrough LP – charted the dark alternative reality of an epic night out, Singularity explores the dissonance between dystopian urbanity and the green forest. Singularity begins and ends on the same note: a universe beginning, expanding, and contracting towards the same infinitesimal point. Domino is very proud to mark the return of Jon Hopkins and his new album, Singularity, released 4th May 2018, his first since 2013’s Immunity.
